Keeping a keepsake

Aloha!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend like we did.  As usual, my daughter and I were busy gallivanting while hubby was in school.  This Saturday, we went to the west side of the island.  We checked out Nimitz Beach and had lunch at MonkeyPod in Koolina.  We also got to gather some twigs and sand for my next project.  It was a beautiful day!

Anyway, I wonder if you remember few months ago, my best friend got married (story here) and Kaylee was one of her flower girls.  I made hair wreaths for the flower girls.  After the wedding, I hate to think about my beautiful hair wreaths just meeting the trash.  Also, I wanted to make something for the girls to remember this very special day.

My DIY wreaths
I found these 12 x 12 shadow box with white frame at Target for $9.99.  This size is perfect for the wreaths, so is the price!  These are probably the cheapest 12 x 12 shadow box I could find at any store in Hawaii or online.  I only needed two, but since I tend to panic buy at good deals, I bought five. (I actually wanted to buy 10.)

I picked a picture of both flower girls with the bride.  I glued the photo on a foam board since I want the picture to pop up or have an elevation so it's not so flat on paper.

Then, I covered the side of the foam board with sparkly ribbon.  I also put little rhinestones on the corners.
Finally, I glued the wreath and the photo on the white board, then added the wedding date.

A little glue here and there, and here is our decorative keepsake!
I am absolutely happy with the result.  It turned exactly how I pictured it!  The flower girls now have a little something to remember this special event, plus I saved my wreaths from trash!  Yay!
