Hello hello! Today I want to share the project I did a year ago, so this post is long overdue... This is on "How to make your own Monogrammed Plaque."
I've always wanted to put something personalized in front of our house. At first, I thought about putting our last name on our mailbox, but I thought maybe that's too much information. I got so excited with the thought of monogrammed plaque maybe over our front door. I found a lot of nice monogrammed overdoor plaque online, but I had one problem with them. The prices range from $120-$190 plus shipping and handling to Hawaii. Yikes! I had to think of a way to get it cheaper. While I was at Ross, I had this brilliant idea. (light bulb!!!) I bought this decorative cast iron wall thingy in rusty black, then went to Ben Franklin's to buy a wooden letter G. |
I painted the letter G white, then put it over the cast iron decor. It didn't look right, so I grabbed a thick box (yes, I cut my purse's storage box...) I used my oval plate as pattern. The cardboard served as the letter plate. It looked great, except hubby made a comment about the cardboard would not withstand outside weather. It drizzles/rains everyday where we live so he made a good point. So much for sacrificing my nice pretty sturdy box! Next I got a very thin plywood at a craft store, and did the same thing - cut it into oval shape. I painted it black and glued on the cast iron. Then, I glued my letter G on it.
Just like that, and I made our very own monogrammed plaque, and the best part was I spent less than $20 on it! Woohoo!
I don't have space over our door, so I hung it on the wall adjacent to our front door. Looks great! I hope you enjoyed this post and somehow inspired to try to make one for yourself. It's super easy and fun to do! |
